January
So, Obliv's going to be unable to DM come January due to the horrible IRL beast that is mandatory overtime (CR 30). This will put Kingmaker on hold until he's able to get out of working late. However, he thinks he should be able to play, but we'd need to start later and have short sessions. Which opens up options:
I'd actually be okay with shelving CoT a while becauseI have no idea what I'm doing converting will take a while, and I think Swift's further along with his prep. So. Thoughts?
- We put all games on hold until sometime in February
- We just put KM on hold and keep going with whichever one he isn't running (possibly CoT, possibly Galamaker)
- We start up a short campaign to end as soon as things stabilize
I'd actually be okay with shelving CoT a while because

Re: January
Options two or three sound like they would work best. I'm not a fan of putting all of the games on hold. Then again, I don't know what I'll be doing in January so...Whatever works.

Re: January
I have a bunch of old 3.5 one-shot campaigns on pdf. I could try running those to get more DM chops under my belt before running something I really care about (such as Galasis or GalaMaker)
Then again, if they're shorter sessions, they may be three-shot campaigns instead.
Either way; I'd be down with running some of those.

I'd like to keep gaming, but don't want to hamper any of your efforts.

Re: January
I think I've said this all over Skype, but I'll go ahead and repeat it here for posterity. I'll still be available to play, though I might show up a little late for some sessions (no more than half an hour, if last year is to judge by), and can still play. I just won't have time to do any DM prep, so Kingmaker will definitely be on hiatus.
Given the recently-proposed changes to CoT and possibility that the current Monday game may be shelved preemptively to start on it, and the prep that's been done for Galamaker, I'd be okay with either. However, I'd also be okay with multiple 1-shots or a month-long thing, or two of the Monday session games each week (if whoever takes that day is okay with that), since the plan would be to resume Kingmaker after January ends and that would result in whatever game replaced it just ending then until KM is done, which could be up to a year or more at the rate we're going.
You guys' call =) We've got a while to figure it out though.

Re: January
If everyone's ok with shunting CoT over to Finiens, I'm pretty sure I can get it prepped no problem in time for January. But if Swift would rather start GalaMaker and take a turn as regular GM, I can throw a short (lighthearted) homebrew together to cover the KM hiatus.
I can do either.

Re: January
I can (hopefully) have GalaMaker ready by January. I have a few sessions worth ready at the moment, but longer-term stuff will take longer. (NPC's, NPC's, NPC's.)
Failing that, my previous offer of running a bunch of 3.5 oneshots I have accumulated stands.
Failing still that; GRIPPLI'S (j/k)

I'm good with either, though I like the idea of CoT in Finiens.

I'm guessing you've played in Finiens before, Bella?

Re: January
I kinda helped come up with it. It's the setting for my novel series, as well as the setting for several PbPs.

Oh wow, there's been a lot of devtime on Finiens, then.
A little thread giving a brief description would be amazing.
PbP's?

Re: January
I posted one in one of the other forums, but it's in severe need of reworking because I got some stuff out of order, and we're revamping the creation myth/deity system/etc. or more accurately putting it back the way it was supposed to be and fleshing out the details, rather than the placeholder Greek/Norse/etc. deity system I'm using in Kingmaker.Swifto wrote:Oh wow, there's been a lot of devtime on Finiens, then.

Re: January
I'm leaning more towards Council of Thieves since I have a more concrete idea as to what character I'm going to use.

Re: January
Yeah. Ignore most references to various gods/churches/etc., and like I said a lot of stuff is out of order - for example the part about Lucilla Marinsbane and the Tyrant Cult taking over Olympia is inaccurate, they're supposed to have taken over the region that, AFTER they're defeated and thrown out (and Lucilla killed, then later reincarnated as a divine aspect), BECOMES Olympia.
Re: January
Well, I'll definitely have to try and get Kaiki as developed.
Shame I'm bad at timelines and pantheons.

Re: January
We've been working on it for years, so it's had plenty of time to develop. I think we started putting together the Stormwind half of Finiens back in 2008 or so, then I added the Wachara and Paziou half around 2010, when I started working on my Altered Enigma story.
Re: January
I've had Kaiki in my head since... I think 2004? It was originally for an RP on a forum, which went on to great success, and again once more later, on a more side-story sort of thing, but has kinda languished since.
Finally being able to insert Calzari, Ralgar and Galasis into the setting helped inspire me more and to add more details.
Hopefully, in time, it works out fine.

Re: January
I just want to note that I've been brushing up on a few one-shots from the 3.5 era of DnD, and a fair few of them I could easily run, come January.
(Or I could share some of them with Lady, or if Face wants to take a stab)
The biggest difficulty with these is either setting or characters. I'd like to see how some of our established characters (particularily Erroll) do in these, but unless we treat each one as their own seperate thing, that would get tricky to work.
Then again, trying to string these together into a cohesive story likely won't work too well. So! Uh, however y'àll wanna work it. This is always an option. (I'd like to get more DM'ing chops under my belt before GalaMaker anyways.)

Re: January
Only established character I have with this group is Tatya, until we start one of the other games =) Just lemme know who I need to bring or if I need to make someone new.
Re: January
Yeah, I'll probably run each one on their own instead of trying to string them together.
I say we use established characters mainly for ease of everyone involved. Making new characters for everything gets tedious, but if you wanna make someone new, by all means! Or if you wanna try a class out.
Once January gets closer, I'll make a devoted thread for each one about a month in advance. (Probably)

Re: January
I always do enjoy playing Errol, and writing for him outside of Kingmaker has proven to be interesting so far, so sure, why not?
Though for something like a one-shot, he might be a tad more antagonistic than he is in Kingmaker.
