Would like to recommend books by Kylie Chan. Modern day, takes place in Hong Kong, about a women who becomes the nanny of a Chinese god. Lots of martial arts and demons, just over all pretty good series, two trilogies out now working on the third.

Also the Alex Verus series by Benedict Jacka. The coolest example of a divination caster I have ever read. Also set in a modern setting.

Finally, at least for now, the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne. Great modern day version of a druid.

Hidden'll be out in September! Makes me laugh that all four of the 'set in England' urban fantasy series I've read have ALL been set in London. (This one, Kate Griffin's Matthew Swift books (two series) (sorcerer dies, then his life gets interesting), Mike Carey's Felix Castor series (similar to Dresden, but more hard-boiled), and Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London series (actual beat cop finds out he can do magic).)

Even Gail Carriger's silly Victorian werewolves vs vampire books are mostly in London.

Ah well.

I'm on the 4th book in the River of London series and there's this - someone orders three "Macs" and the beer is "thick and nutty and should have, I decided, been drunk at room temperature". HA! In the Alex Verus series, there's a mention about a guy in Chicago who's also public. Heh.
