Into the Far East Empty Into the Far East

I just picked up a number of books via the DriveThruRPG 40% off sale on PFRPG books. Of the more interesting 3rd Party content is material for the Empire of the Jade Oath and Kaidan settings. I'm interested in running a PbP game if any of you would like to play in the lands of samurai, ninja, and mystical monks.

I'm game. Would this be set in the Senkaku Islands part of Finiens or some other world?

Kaidan can be dropped in place easily in that area. The islands are surrounded by an eerie fog that cut them off from the rest of the world for a very long time. Contact with other nations has only recently been restored. A single port is open to the Gaijin with passes required for travel into the interior. Characters could start as natives or I have a short adventure path (escort mission) for Lv 5-7 that can introduce a party of gaijin to the culture.

The Empire of the Jade Oath, on the other hand, looks to be a conversion from a Chinese setting for Arcana Evolved. All told, it's the better part of Asia and quite possibly the most heavily populated country in the world. That's a bit harder to drag and drop into Finiens. I suppose I could always make the fog an actual planar boundary and use Kaidan as a way station to the EotJO

... not to mention homebrewing a bit for whatever I find missing. I have some thoughts for a pseudo-asian culture that could prove quite unique.

That planar boundary thing sounds pretty interesting actually.

Still, I'm in either way. =) Just let us know what you need from character concepts.

First thing I need to know is if everyone plans to play gaijin arriving for the first time or if I'm going to need to put together a player pack on the culture for any locals. The AP starts off with a merchant looking for guards to protect a relic he's delivering to a local daimyo. ...of course, you may also have your own ulterior motives for traveling to this accursed land.

Kaidan is specifically based on Japanese ghost stories (hence the name) but the since I'll also be using it as a waypoint to EJO, eastern style firearms will be available, but rare. For some inspiration if you want to be locals, I suggest watching Inuyasha, Samurai Deeper Kyo, and other period pieces with significant yokai and oni. Anyone wanting to play a ninja, samurai (class or caste), or yakuza should let me know so we can start working out your connections. There's a few special rules regarding magic use in the islands, but only those with the appropriate class or skill will know them.

Current projection is for a 4 man band at Lv 5 (though I'm willing to run with as few as 2 or as many as 5), additional races for locals include the Henge, Tengu, Kappa, and Bakamono. Details available upon request.
